Hello and Welcome to Atomic Kidz Club! A STREAM based blog about all things having to do with hands-on learning in science! You will find fun and exciting ways to spark your kid's imagination with hands-on, minds-on learning. Kids and adults will have so much fun, they won't realize they are learning.
STREAM stands for Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts and Math.
Science: This is how the world go round! Science is how stuff works, what stuff is made of and includes all the wonders of world. This includes animals, space, electricity, and more. Kids often wonder how their bike works, how a boat floats, or what makes a train move. It's science!
Technology: NOW is the best time to be alive with technology. In fact, our kids are learning foundations for jobs not even invented yet! This includes coding, robotics, space travel and more. Technology will help our lives and make everything more accessible.
Reading: Literacy is everything! Being able to read is so important to learn every other subject including math, history, and science. If your kid can read, they have an advantage in all subjects and can truly excel. What if they don't like to read? That's where we come in! Giving them subjects to read about that is exciting and will lead them down and path of learning, is key!
Engineering: Have you ever gotten the question, how does that work? How does your oven cook your food? How does a boat float? Well, we will explore these questions and a million more. Engineering is a natural thing your child does from birth. When they start building with blocks and knocking them down is the first steps to engineering. It's a natural phenomenon that we even see in nature - ants building their nest, bees creating a hive, etc. Engineers build our cities, houses, highways and more. This is a very exciting topic and more every child gets into building a bridge, trying to make the tallest tower or constructing a car that will move with air power from a balloon.
Arts: Creativity in ingrain with science. Look at the amazing gorgeous colors nature gives us. Or, the geometric shapes you see in a bee hive. Science, math and art are fantastic partners and will give kids a chance to be free in expressing their passions and personalities. My favorite thing is to use science to make art. For example, we can attach a cup of paint to a pendulum and create a unique work of art. Or, use a chemical reaction to explode on a canvas! This is one of my favorites!
Math: Uggg...how many times have you heard your child complain about math. It's frustrating or too hard or they just don't understand. Well, make math kinestetic and hands-on and they will start to see how math works, rather than how hard it is. We can help with that! Math is in art, science, cooking and more. You use measurements and volume in the kitchen every day. We determine how much gas we need to move our cars. Math is so important in our every day lives and once we realize that, it comes naturally.
STREAM is the world, life in and around it! It is amazing and fun and totally inspiring.
